**Responsibilities**

**Job Summary:**

Provide clinical services for the Intensive Care Units including, but not limited to, oral health care, screening and assessment, and professional advisement and support for inpatient care.

**Responsibilities:**

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**

+ Provide direct care to patients in the trauma, medical, and cardiovascular intensive care units.

+ Provide oral care for critically ill patients who are intubated and at risk for ventilator-associated pneumonia.

+ Perform the bedside oral exam and complete the oral care protocol as specified in the Bedside Oral Care policy.

+ Perform oral care that includes brushing teeth and gums, debriding tongue, rinsing with chlorhexidine, and applying oral moisturizer.

+ Use specific oral hygiene aids and products as specified in the Bedside Oral Care policy.

+ Educate nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, and other appropriate medical professionals on the bedside exam and oral care

+ Develop training materials to be used in training nurses on nurse-administered oral hygiene.

+ Collect data and report on patient outcomes as indicated.

+ Collaborate and contribute to patient care within area of expertise.

+ Communicate with department supervisor and manager regarding clinic staff and operations issues in a timely manner.

+ Participate in publication and presentation activities as needed.

**Personal and Professional Responsibilities**

+ Promotes open communication within the hospital, patient care unit, ancillary and support departments.

+ Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.

+ Participates in development activities and contributes ideas to facilitate improving patient care, operations and organization processes and systems in support of individual department.

+ Collaborates to develop education, objectives, goals and action plans for the department and/or peers within area of expertise. Demonstrates the ability to work with various end users to effectively provide the needed information andtraining.

+ Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development and continuing education by attending departmental meetings, hospital events and classes, etc.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum:**

**Experience:**

+ One year of clinical dental hygiene experience.

+ Preferred: Two years clinical dental hygiene experience.

+ Experience working in a hospital setting with inpatients.

+ Experience with providing presentations, educating, or training adults in large or small group settings.

**Education:**

Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program

**Licensure:**

+ DENTALHY:AZ

+ American Heart Association BLS

**Special Skills:**

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with a variety of healthcare providers.

+ High degree of initiative and problem solving ability; ability to exercise judgment, make independent decisions and assume responsibility

+ Basic computer skills for documenting care and assessments in patient record

**Pay Range**

$32.08 - $46.51 /hour
