Electrical Controls Design Engineer

As a controls design engineer, you play a key part in the AeroSpec equipment development process.  The controls design engineer works with customers, suppliers and the other AeroSpec engineers to create a clean-sheet of paper controls solution that enables a high precision, high speed solution for our customers.  This engineering position is challenging and full of new technologies to learn.  You will mentor other engineers and electrical technicians.

What you’ll do:
Create a ground-up control system design to solve a customer’s unique equipment application.
Create block diagrams and other graphical representations to define all critical elements of the control system architecture. 
Present and collaborate your solutions (with your project team) to customers and suppliers.
Transform your ideas into manufacturable schematics and parts lists using AutoCAD.  Schematics included electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, network, process etc.  Panel and enclosure layouts and modifications.  Custom cable and harness assemblies.    
Lead and mentor your team of junior controls engineers and technicians on various aspects of control system design and development.
Participate in equipment conceptual development and carefully balance system specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
Interface with both suppliers and customers. 
Experience or knowledge of designing low-voltage power distribution systems, up to 600 Volts, 200 Amps.
Experience or knowledge of safety systems pertaining to EN/ISO 13849-1 and EN/IEC 61508/62061, up to Category 4, SIL 3, PL-E
Experience with implementation and troubleshooting of analog and serial devices.
Knowledge to ensure ISO 13849-1 and EN 62061 compliant control safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment.
Utilize UL508A frequently and CE design practices occasionally.
Specify complex electrical and electromechanical components such as servos and robots.
Interface with the mechanical engineering team; attend design reviews, provide feedback on control interfaces.
Collaborate with the software development group to ensure software meets design requirements for the proposed control system architecture.
Occasion domestic and international travel, 1-5 times per year.

What you need:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or other relevant experience.
Minimum of 3 years experience design automation control systems or similar experience.
AutoCAD proficiency for electrical applications as well as control system mechanical components and fabricated parts.
Broad experience with electrical and automation components from manufacturers such as Rockwell Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Phoenix Contact, Cognex, Square D, Festo, SMC, Wiedmueller, Wago, Hoffman, etc.
Experience with common field devices commonly used in automation such as robots, laser systems, machine vision systems, indexers, pick and places, etc.   
Extensive background with motion control using industrial drives, servomotors, stepper motors, linear motors, etc.
Highly experienced with networking industrial automation systems and subsystems. 
Working knowledge of industry standards (UL508A, NFPA79, IEC, NEC).
Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical design documents
Experience with programming Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000 PLCs and Kinetix Drives a plus.
