Job Description
Northern Arizona University's Student Affairs Division seeks a talented, motivated, and relationship-oriented Business Intelligence Analyst, Intermediate, to support the division's data collection and assessment needs. This position plays a crucial role in assisting with the division's business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis efforts. The successful candidate will work to transform business data into actionable insights that inform decision-making and support strategic planning. The Business Intelligence Analyst, Intermediate, will collaborate with employees across the Student Affairs Division to identify data needs, analyze systems and services, and assist in fostering a culture of assessment. This individual will be skilled in conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses, with the ability to translate findings into clear, compelling narratives that align with the Division's mission and goals. The analyst will support efforts to improve student persistence and momentum, academic and career purpose, wellness, and inclusion/sense of belonging.
Analysis - 30%
• Collaborate with Student Affairs colleagues to identify data needs, including desired outcome data/Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), target populations, participant and associated non-participant data, etc.
• Assist with survey development and administration.
• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess progress toward goals and identify improvement opportunities.
• Conduct statistical analysis on survey, departmental, and institutional datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and correlations.
• Determine and apply statistical techniques and moderately complex analytical tools to generate insights and make recommendations that support student success.
• Explore innovative methods to analyze and present data in inclusive and accessible ways.
• Stay current on industry trends and best practices on data analysis for continual improvement in assessment and evaluation.
Reporting - 25%
• Collaborate with Student Affairs colleagues to define and document requirements for engagement/participation tracking.
• Ensure data tracking procedures and monitoring reports align with organizational objectives and priorities.
• Perform data validation and quality assurance checks to maintain accuracy and reliability of reports.
• Identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes, improving efficiency and effectiveness through iterative enhancements.
• Demonstrate a working understanding of reporting systems' interconnectivity and the relationships between analytical tools and system structures.
• Generate reports of formative data for monitoring engagement/participations for Student Affairs colleagues.
• Generate reports with summative data, including summaries of analysis and recommendations for action.
Data Visualization - 25%
• Create engaging and interactive data visualizations using tools such as Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or similar software to effectively communicate trends and insights to Student Affairs stakeholders.
• Align Student Affairs divisional and departmental data needs and objectives with visualizations.
• Continuously evaluate and refine visualizations based on feedback to improve user experience and comprehension.
• Stay current on industry trends and best practices on data visualizations for continual improvement.
• Apply best practices to present complex data clearly and effectively for enhancing decision-making.
Training and Documentation - 10%
• Provide training and support to Student Affairs staff on report generation, report/date interpretation, and utilization of reporting tools.
• Provide guidance and support to the division on data analysis techniques, reporting best practices, and software tools.
• Provide expertise and guidance to Student Affairs staff on statistical analysis techniques to support data-driven decision-making across departments.
• Develop comprehensive documentation outlining data analysis methodologies, including steps taken, algorithms employed, and rationale behind analytical decisions, ensuring transparency and reproducibility in analysis processes.
• Create user-friendly documentation, such as user guides and manuals, to support colleagues in understanding and utilizing Business Intelligence tools, reports, and dashboards effectively, enhancing user proficiency and adoption of Business Intelligence solutions.
Collaboration - 5%
• Serve on division and university committees, task forces, and special projects upon request.
Other - 5%
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, or other related field.
• 2+ years of experience reporting, analyzing, and visualizing data sets.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or Social Sciences.
• 2+ years of full-time experience working in higher education.
• Intermediate experience utilizing visualization tools such as data warehouse reporting, Tableau, and/or Power BI and translating results to non-technical users.
• Intermediate experience utilizing statistical software, including SPSS, SAS, or R, demonstrating understanding of statistical concepts and deriving meaningful insights.

Salary
Salary is $58,882
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
